My New Favourite Tool

Yep, that does sound like a bit of an odd title. Who has a favourite tool? It’s such a simple one too, and it saves a lot of worries when you’ve removed the rear wheel.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who, when they take the rear wheel out of the frame, is worried about the damage the chain will do to the chainstays. Yes, I do have some protective film over the top where the chain can come into contact, but I still sometimes find myself catching the pedals and accidentally spinning the chain around.

A metal chain on a carbon frame doesn’t bear thinking about. So I found this neat little tool referred to as a dummy hub. When the wheel is removed from the bike it takes the place of the rear hub and cassette. As a neat little trick, it also allows you to change gear. No idea why that will be useful but it’s quite cool.

I’ve only had it a couple of weeks and I’ve already used it numerous times. It fits all of my bikes, including my full suspension bike which has a 12mm through axle. It’s one of those tools that you can live without, however, it’s fantastic if you have it.

Have you got any favourite tools or perhaps one that you couldn’t do without?

Until next time.

Jack
