A Bike Kind of a Day

One of my favourite types of days. I even managed a little cheeky blast on the rollers towards the end of the afternoon.

Over the last, however many months, I’d been slowly building up a small collection of new parts and components that I wanted to use to upgrade various bikes. Actually, there was at least one new part for each bike I own. Some bikes may have had slightly more…

The reason why the parts had been piling up was that I hadn’t had the time to get on with the work. Too busy riding. Sunday, however, was different. Mainly because of the weather. It was due to be a pretty miserable day for most of it. Heavy rain and strong winds. Que some time in the man cave.

I decided that I would spend a bit of time on two of my bikes. Firstly, my track bike. A while ago, I bought it some new wheels. I have an image of what I’m aiming my track bike to look like and slowly but surely it’s starting to take place. I’m going to write a separate blog post about sorting out the wheels. All I’ll say at this stage is that it looks pretty damn good!

The second bike that I decided I would focus on was my hardtail. At the moment, both of my mountain bikes are out of action. The Orange was due for some new parts and the Bronson requires a full strip down service. It’s making some horrid noises and I need to sort them out before I go for another ride on it.

There were two main things for the Orange. Firstly, I’d bought a dropper post for it. Actually, I’d bought two, but as I only need one, one of them is going back. The other thing was to convert it from a 2×10 drive train to a 1×10. With this bike, I also managed to test out my new parts cleaner. Again, I’ll touch on that a bit more in a separate post.

I’d managed to sort both bikes before the end of the day and I am pretty happy with the results. I still need to do a little bit of tweaking here and there, but I’d also like to do that while on a ride and make sure I’ve got everything dialled in. The only thing left to do is ride a bike.

My choice was made for me thanks, again, to the weather. A few miles ridden indoors was better than no miles at all. As the track bike had some new wheels, that was the one that I was going to ride. It would have been rude not to.

It’s not often I get to spend almost a whole day with bikes, fettling with them, cleaning them up and then riding them too. Good things come to those who wait.

When was the last time you managed to spend a whole day fettling with your bikes?

Until next time.

Jack
