I cannot tell you how good it feels to be back on two wheels. Even the day after my accident I was itching to get back on the bike so you can imagine what I was like after six weeks!
A couple of days ago I managed to get back out on the road bike and finally enjoy the glorious weather we’ve been having. That day, I must have been so miserable because when my fiancé came back home on Sunday afternoon she told me to go and get changed into some cycling gear and that we were going on a ride.
I was very wary of the fact that my wrist was still quite weak and still in the process of regaining strength. However, after a few short miles, I had managed to find a comfortable position on the handlebars and I began to relax. It wasn’t long before my confidence was back in full swing.
The usual, joyous, feelings of the wind in my helmet, the sun on my legs and all of my worries fade away. Grinning from ear to ear like a Cheshire cat. Riding outside on the open road gives you such freedom from the stresses of life.
We didn’t go too far, it was only an 11 mile there and back ride. But it was perfect for starting to get back on the bike. I was also so impressed with my fiance as she’d not been on the bike since last year, strange person, and she went out and did an 11-mile ride with me. If that isn’t love, I don’t know what is.
I was so happy for the rest of the day.
Until next time.
